Our appreciation for the Ridgeback grows slowly with the unraveling of earthly history and the arrival of the European settlers. The KhoiKhoi (Hottentot) Lion Dog was bred in a biological storm. Its tribe we know, stems from the remote ecocene, cross bred to English Pointers, Greyhounds, Deerhounds, Foxhounds and Mastiffs among others. The members of the canine species in which the Ridgeback originated are long since entombed under the giant flowering Boababs trees lauded kings of the African savannas, some two thousand years old. |
